There will be no Memorial Day parade in Litchfield for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there will be a small ceremony held on the Green by American Legion Post 27 beginning at 10 a.m.
There will be speakers, the placement of wreaths at the war monuments on the Green, and an Air Force flyover.
Post 27 made the decision not to have a parade after consulting with First Selectman Denise Raap and Borough of Litchfield Warden Dirk Patterson. Although state restrictions on public gatherings are beginning to ease, it was decided that a cautious approach to Memorial Day was in order.
Post 27 will begin the Memorial Day weekend May 29 by placing American flags at the gravesites of veterans in East Cemetery, West Cemetery and St. Anthony Cemetery.
