Litchfield finished second in the Berkshire League swim championships that were held on Friday and Saturday.
Coach Todd Dyer’s team accumulated 538 points in finishing as the runner up to a powerful Northwestern team. Dyer was pleased with the effort by his team, considering it had limited practice time during the season.
“I am so proud of this group of athletes,” Dyer said. “With only three weeks of a 10-week season to practice due to remote learning, they persevered and shone bright. It begs the question of what this talented group of athletes could have done with an even playing field.”
Litchfield was without three starters who were sidelined due to injury or COVID-19 protocol.
Wamogo finished fourth in the meet with 403 points.
Sage Sobek won the 50-yard freestyle, was second in the 100-yard freestyle and swam on the second-place 400-yard free relay team with Mike Kelleher, Joe Morgan and Hayden Marriott. Sobek earned All-Berkshire League status in the 50 free as did Ellen McCarthy in the 50 free, Sophie Perkel in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, and Jackie Kenna in 1-meter diving.
Perkel was first in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Kenna, sophomore, set a school record with her score of 344.50 points in diving and set another record earlier in the season.
Joe Sylvester had a terrific meet for Wamogo in winning the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. He swam on the winning 200 medley relay team with Ryan Krhla, Jason Meto and Arbri Mucka. The quartet was second in the 200 free relay. Krhla was second in the 200 individual medley and Garrett Deacon second in the 100 backstroke.
Jackie Kenna established new school records in diving for Litchfield.
