Supporters of the Possum Queen Foundation took to the golf course on Monday for the organization’s fourth annual fundraising tournament.
The event at Greenwoods Country Club in Torrington drew 68 participants and raised about $5,500 for the foundation that assists local individuals facing expensive medical costs. Possum Queen Foundation President Billy Neller and Vice President John Bongiorno supervised the tournament with help from Patty DiChillo and Jay Bolton.
Participants played 18 holes on the sizzling hot day. The winning team consisted of Mike Burr, Bruce Royer, George Seaborne, Gary Lafferty and Jay LaFontaine.
Some of the more notable participants were Gary Zeller, Val Caron, Don Sanford, Rick Columbie, D.J. Murphy, Darren Murphy, Bruce and Jennie Blouin, Bill Fabbri, Jenny Matthews and John and Jen Roller.
Next year the tournament will be named the Bill Brakeman and Jean Murphy Memorial Possum Queen Foundation Tournament. Brakeman and Murphy, who both died earlier this year, were major supporters of the Possum Queen Foundation.
