Friends of the Litchfield Community Greenway is involved in a new fundraising endeavor as it aims to complete the third phase of its 3-mile recreation trail linking Litchfield and Bantam.
The organization has partnered with Sustainable CT on a matching funds project that has a goal of raising $30,000 by June 15.
Every dollar raised locally will be matched by Sustainable CT, a statewide organization that encourages municipalities to enhance quality of life for their residents.
The $30,000 would be used to build 140 feet of boardwalk that would carry the trail through wetlands between Bissell Road and White Hall Road in the White Memorial Conservation Center.
More than $8,300 has been raised locally thus far.
“The most important message we are conveying is that, as a local, volunteer driven non-profit organization, we are so grateful for the community’s support that has brought us this far,” said Friends of the Litchfield Community Greenway member Berta Andrulis Mette. “We are also very appreciative of our local Town of Litchfield Sustainable CT Committee’s endorsement of our project and all the good this group is doing for the community as a whole.”
