Wamogo’s boys’ basketball team, the Berkshire League’s regular-season champion and postseason tournament champ, will not get the chance to continue its season in the Division III state tournament due to the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference on Tuesday announced that continuing concerns regarding the spread of the virus has led to the decision to cancel the remainder of its winter championship tournaments.

Wamogo was scheduled to host Avon in a second-round tournament game on Wednesday. The Class S swimming championships Wamogo and Litchfield were due to compete in have also been canceled.

The decision was made in light of discussions with numerous agencies and considering the circumstances of CIAC member schools, championship venues, and weighing the health and safety of student-athletes, parents, and fans given the uncertainty that surrounds the spread of this virus, according to Glenn Lungarini, executive director of the CIAC and the Connecticut Association of Schools.
