Litchfield Track Club runner Abby Johnston of Northfield ran strong in the Foot Locker Northeast Cross Country Championships at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday.
The championships drew high school runners from New England, New York, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
Johnston ran in the freshman and sophomore race and finished ninth in time of 20:05 for 3.1 miles. She was the third freshman finisher and earned Northeast All-America honors.
She was coming off a USATF Region 1 Junior Olym meet where she qualified for the national JO championships in Madison, Wis. on Dec. 14.
In the state team competition Saturday, Connecticut placed first with 32 points while New York was second (52), and Pennsylvania third (79). There were a total of 258 runners in the competition.
