Litchfield Hills Road Race committee President Beth Murphy and race volunteer Rick Evangelisti prepare half of an old oil tank that will be used for a fire during a gathering at Road Race Park on the race course on Friday evening. Race volunteers and supporters will be on hand to mark the kickoff of race weekend, which is always one of the best times of the year in town.
Festivities will continue on Saturday with a ceremony at St. Anthony Cemetery at 2 p.m. and the Parks and Recreation Department’s annual block party in the center of town at 7 p.m. Blues singer Eran Troy Danner will perform.
On Sunday, things get started with a 1-mile children’s run shortly after noon. At 1 p.m., the 43rd LHRR gets underway with a blast from the cannon of the First Litchfield Artillery Regiment.
