What a night it was Saturday at the Litchfield Community Center as a crowd of 330 set sail on the Litchfield to London fundraiser benefiting the community center.

The annual gala kicked off the community center’s week-long summer fest program. Proceeds from the lively affair organized by community center executive director Berta Andrulis Mette and the center’s board of directors will help the center fund activities and programs for the public.

The big moment of the evening saw Deb Deziel of Litchfield win the raffle of a trip for two to London aboard the Queen Mary II. The seven-day cruise in November will be followed by a five-night stay in London and a flight home. Transportation to the Queen Mary in New York, from the dock to the hotel in London and from the airport back to Litchfield are all part of the package.

Deziel’s winning ticket was one of 2,000 sold for the raffle.

Ron Leal, a member of the board of directors, conceived the fundraiser idea and worked with Andrulis Mette to make it happen. They were assisted by board members and dozens of volunteers. The festive evening included food from the Village Restaurant, Tilden Seafood and other caterers, beer and wine, and samples of spirits from the Litchfield Distillery. Live music from two bands and dancing added even more luster.
