Some of the best young runners in the state converged on the White Memorial Conservation Center on Sunday for the Connecticut Junior Olympics Cross-Country Championships.
Races were held for boys and girls in age groups from 8 and under to 17 and 18. The Litchfield Track Club again served as the host for the championships and track club coach Dave Driscoll was race director. Driscoll was assisted by volunteers the likes of Ron Peck, Bob Dwyer, John Keilty, Matt Sweet, Jeff Pratt, Nadine Pratt and Katie Pratt. The Litchfield Lions Club operated a concession stand.
Peck and Dwyer were timers at the finish line and more than made up for the absence of local sports celebrity Billy Neller, who had served as lead timer at the championships for many years. Neller was unavailable Sunday.
