Strong performance by Cowboys in Class S meet

Litchfield High's boys track and field team finished sixth in the Class S championship meet at Danbury High School on Wednesday.

Top performers for the Cowboys were Blaise Pope, who was second in the pole vault, Jack Donovan (third in the 800 meters), Brandon Hookstadt (fifth in the 300 hurdles) and Tyler Mowrey (eighth in the 100 meters).

Donovan, who ran a personal-best time of 1:58.43, qualified for the State Open on Monday.

Litchfield's 4x400 relay team of Hookstadt, Mowrey, Donovan and Spencer Persechino finished third to qualify for the State Open. The 4x100 team of Mowrey, Pope, Persechino and Chris Ray was fourth.

The top finisher for Wamogo's boys, who were 27th, was Brandon Leclair in fourth place in the 3200 meters.

Litchfield was 16th in the girls Class S championships at Danbury, led by Chelsea Hayward's second place in the 200 meters and third place in the 100 meters. Hayward will compete in both events at the State Open.

Kelly O'Halloran was eighth in the javelin and Shelby Elwell 10th in the 300 hurdles for Litchfield.

Brooke Neller led Wamogo's girls to 20th place with her second place in the 800 meters. Neller will compete in the State Open.

Wamogo's 4x400 relay team of Amanda Hutton, Emmalee Hall, Neller and Morgan Jankowics was sixth, one place ahead of the Litchfield quartet of Hayward, Elwell, O'Halloran and Morgan Ricci.
 
Litchfield's Chelsea Hayward finished second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters in the Class S championship meet.
