A successful season for Litchfield High's boys soccer team came to a close Saturday in the second round of the Class S tournament.
The Cowboys, playing on the road at top-ranked and unbeaten Old Saybrook, gave it everything they had in a 1-0 loss in cold and blustery weather on an artificial turf field.
"The lads played their hearts out today under difficult conditions and lost 1-0," Litchfield coach Rob Andrulis said in a Facebook posting. "I cannot express how proud I am of this group and especially the senior boys and their leadership all year. Something I will never forget."
Litchfield finished 11-6-1. This season's team realized its potential about a year ahead of schedule, according to Andrulis, who wasn't expecting as successful of a campaign. With several key players due to return next year, the Cowboys could be even better.
