Odenwaelder contributes in two wins by Amherst
Former Wamogo baseball standout Mike Odenwaelder had a big hand in two wins the Amherst College baseball team recorded this past weekend as it closed out its annual trip to Florida.
Amherst improved to 9-3 record after sweeping a doubleheader with the University of Chicago. The Jeffs took the first game against the Maroons 1-0 in eight innings before running away with the nightcap, 14-6.
In the first game, Odenwaelder, a sophomore, was stellar in tossing one-hit ball for eight innings and striking out nine. Allowing just three base runners, Odenwaelder hit a batter in the top of the second before issuing a walk in the fourth and surrendering his lone hit in the seventh on a single.
Hitless through the first seven innings, Amherst finally broke through in the eighth. Tyler Jacobs led off with a double to left before Eric West drew an intentional walk. Odenwaelder laid down a sacrifice bunt, to move the runners over and set up a game-winning single by Andrew Vandini.
In the second game, Odenwaelder had three hits and drove in a run.
