The Johnston siblings of Northfield ran well for the Litchfield Track Club at the New Haven Road Race on Monday. They also met a pair of great runners.
Abbie, 14, Caleb, 10, Alexa, 8, and Micah, 6, competed in two of the day’s races in representing the LTC.
Abbie finished 100th out of 2,490 finishers in the 3.1-mile race with a time of 20:07. She was the third finisher among girls ages 13-19 and was the sixth female finisher overall.
Caleb wasn’t far behind in finishing 172nd in 21:18. Alexa and Micah both ran the 800 meters, with Alexa finishing 35th in 3:41 and Micah 97th in 4:27.
The Johnston quartet also got to meet the winners of the 12.4-mile race, Sara Hall of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Leonard Korir of Colorado Springs, Colo. Hall, a role model of Abbie Johnston, posed with the Johnstons before running to a first-place finish in the women’s field.
The encounter with Korir, who won the race, came after the Johnstons found his backpack on the New Haven green afterwards and returned it to him.
