Litchfield residents Antonio Muratori and Sue Leigh were the big winners in the Sandy Beach Triathlon on Friday.
Muratori, who will be a senior at Litchfield High School, finished the half-mile swim in Bantam Lake, 10-mile bicycle ride around the lake, and 3.1-mile out and back run on East Shore Road in 1:09.49. He is back at full strength after suffering a serious bacteria infection in his left leg last summer that nearly cost him the leg.
Leigh was third overall in 1:11.42. Scott Clayton of Bethel was second ion 1:11.06.
There were 47 individual finishers and five three-person teams. The triathlon was organized by the Sandy Beach Commission and sponsored by Litchfield's Parks and Recreation Commission. Beach commission members Corinne Houle and Andy Parker served as co-directors and were assisted by commission members and several volunteers. Proceeds from the event benefit the Sandy Beach restoration fund.
