Litchfield High School swim standout Sarah McCarthy on Wednesday signed a letter of intent to attend Connecticut College, where she will join the swim team.
McCarthy, a senior, signed the letter while being watched by her parents, Scott and Ann, high school coach, Travis Morse, and her coaches with the Litchfield Area Swim Team, Patrick Marchand and Tara McCane.
One of the best female swimmers in school history, McCarthy holds school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and was part of teams that set school records in the 4x100 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. She also holds Berkshire League records in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and was part of a record-setting team in the 200 freestyle relay.
"She's having a great season and hopefully she'll break a few more records," Morse said. "I think the best is still to come for Sarah."
Connecticut College, McCarthy said, is a good fit for her and has a close-knit swim team she got to know during recruiting visits. She plans to major in biology.
