Litchfield Sports Booster Club awards scholarships

Four college-bound Litchfield High School graduates who excelled in the classroom and as athletes were recognized by the Litchfield Sports Booster Club on Tuesday.
Receiving $500 scholarships from booster club President Jon Torrant were Sarah McCarthy, Coleby Bunnell and Amanda Small. Booster club member Denise Parker presented Rachel Leigh with the $500 Bill Dranginis Memorial Scholarship. Dranginis, one of the founders of the booster club, died last year. He was a longtime swim coach at Litchfield High School.
Leigh will attend the University of the Cumberlands, where she will play lacrosse. In high school, she played field hockey and basketball and was on the track and field team. She played lacrosse with Litchfield Hills Lacrosse.
McCarthy was a record-setting swimmer at Litchfield High and will swim at Connecticut College. She also competed in cross-country and played softball.
Small was a four-year field hockey player in high school and will attend High Point University. She was captain of the field hockey team as a senior.
Bunnell, the son of Litchfield High sports great Fred Bunnell, was an All-State goalie in soccer as a senior, an All-State hockey player with the Shepaug co-op team as a senior, and a three-year starter for the baseball team. He will attend Fairfield University.
