The Litchfield Hills Rowing Club’s junior team fared well in the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia last weekend.
The regatta was held at the Schuylkill Navy Yard, one of the oldest rowing venues in the country, and drew 87 clubs from all over the country. More than 1,000 athletes of all ages competed.
The Litchfield Hills Rowing team emerged from day one of racing with eight boats qualified for finals or semifinals the next day. The decisive victory for the team was the U-17 women’s quad rowed by Ruby Hatfield, Landry Langlais, Gwen Brown and Kamryn Thibodeau. They beat the field in the semifinals by a whopping 43 seconds, and won finals by 18 seconds. Langlais and Hatfield turned it around and placed third in the U17 double-scull final as well.
Also notable was the first place performance of Patryk Fancher in the U-17 men’s single scull. Fancher beat the next closest boat by a 11 seconds. Also making it through heats and semifinals were Noah Legendre, who came in third in the U-19 men’s final and Rose Kelly, who was fourth in that event final for women. The U-17 men’s team, which included Oliver Sanchez and Anderson Warshaw, placed sixth in the finals.
The LHRC junior team will compete at US Rowing Club Nationals in Ohio from July 12-July 16.
