The Litchfield County Blues 30-and-over soccer team kicked off its spring season with a 2-0 loss to Clinton at the Whittlesey-Harrison Recreation Area in Morris on Sunday.
After 85 minutes of scoreless play, Clinton scored on a controversial penalty kick to clinch the win.
Down 1-0, the Blues pushed for the tie with time dwindling but conceded a second goal on a quick counter. Key players for the Blues on Sunday were Dave Oliver, who made numerous saves in goal, Pat Odell and Vinny Miccoli at midfield and Vito Famiglietti at center back.
Player/coach Matt McDevitt is excited about the additions of many key players to the team. Adding youth was a goal during the off season. Making their first appearances for the team on Sunday were Famiglietti, who played at Wamogo, and Odell, Ian Parker and Jameson Secco, who all played at Litchfield High.
The team competes in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League and plays a spring and fall schedule. The roster is filled with local players and includes, Demi Ajazi of Morris and Duncan McGowan, Mike McGowan, Tull Patulak and Philipe DoCarmo, all of Litchfield.
The Blues play at Stamford this Sunday and will play home games in Morris on May 15 and June 12, 19 and 26. Games begin at 10 a.m.
