It was a successful opening night for the Litchfield High and Wamogo girls basketball teams on Tuesday.
Litchfield, behind 17 points and 11 rebounds from Elena Kennedy, rolled over Terryville 52-35 in Brian Mongeau's debut as the Cowgirls head coach. Amber Marino had eight points and Alexa Guerrera, Sophie MacDonald, Sam Foley and Melissa Brodeur each had six.
Litchfield led 29-28 at halftime but outscored Terryville 11-0 in the third quarter to seize control. The Cowgirls host Gilbert on Friday at 7 p.m.
Wamogo was a winner on the road as well, stopping Lewis Mills 43-28 as Rose Kelly scored 13 points, Kristen Kandefer 11 and Emily Kupcho nine.
