Cowgirls ousted in close Class S tennis semifinal

A memorable season for the Litchfield High girls tennis team came to a close in the semifinals of the Class S tournament on Wednesday.
The Cowgirls were edged by Northwest Catholic 4-3 in their first venture to the semifinals. Lexi Honigmann won her singles match 6-1, 6-0 to finish the season undefeated for the Cowgirls. Litchfield's other wins came from the doubles teams of Maggie Brady and Aaliyah Viscera and Sydney Donohue and Claire Vailionis.
The Berkshire League runner up fell behind 3-1 after singles play and needed to sweep the three doubles matches to advance to the finals. The first doubles match was a thriller and decisive as the Litchfield duo of Caroline Donovan and Corinne Casali were defeated, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Falling in singles play for the Cowgirls were Francesca Luzzi, Randi Brandt and Samantha Barnes.
Litchfield, coached by Dan Porri, will be strong againg next year with Honigmann back for her senior season, Luzzi returing at number two doubles, and several other key players coming back.
