Litchfield High's softball team played one of its best games of the season in a 7-6 loss to Nonnewaug on the road Wednesday.
The Cowgirls led 6-5 after four innings but were unable to hold the lead and remained winless at 0-8. Catcher Shelby Butwell, who will play at Fairfield University next year, had a triple, single and two RBI and Eve Mergenthaler stroked a double and a single. Mergenthaler pitched a complete game in taking the loss.
