Litchfield Superintendent of Schools Deborah S. Wheeler will present her proposed budget for 2012-13 to the Board of Education on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school library.
The proposed spending increase, Wheeler told the Board of Education last week, is expected to be .99 percent over the current budget of $16,548,000. That amount to an increase of about $164,000.
Spending is kept in check in the proposal, according to Wheeler by favorable health insurance rates, savings in utilities, and the reduction of the equivalent of two full-time positions.
After Wheeler's proposal, the school board will review the spending plan and will consider adopting it by March 19. Once a budget is adopted, it will be presented to the Board of Finance.
Finance board members are invited to Wednesday's meeting, although they're not happy that Wheeler won't be meeting with them before presenting her plan to the school board. In the past, superintendents have met with the finance board before presenting to the school board.
School board Chairman Frank Simone, however, decided to end that practice. He explained the new process in a letter the finance board digested during its meeting on Monday.
