Two proposals on the docket at Morris town meeting
Morris voters at a town meeting on Thursday will consider a proposal to purchase property at 12 North St. and a proposal to charge residents an annual fee to use the recycling center and trash transfer station.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. A public hearing on the plan to charge a user fee for the recycling center and trash transfer station will be held at 6.
The property at 12 North St. was owned by the late Marge Munson, who many years ago gave the town the first right to buy her property after her passing. The proposed purchase price would be $218,000. An additional $32,000 is being sought for costs associated with the purchase.
The Board of Selectmen supports the proposed purchase and the proposed user fee for the recycling center and trash transfer station. Under the proposal, households would be charged $50 a year for two passes to the facility. An additional $10 would be charged for each extra pass for a household.
Revenue from fees would help offset the rising cost of the operating the facility, according to First Selectman Thomas Weik.
