Litchfield has its first orthopedic medical office with the recent opening of an OrthoConnecticut location.

The office is at 338 Bantam Road, just to the west of the intersection of Bantam Road, Milton Road and Constitution Way. OrthoConnecticut was formed by a merger of New Milford Orthopedics, Danbury Orthopedics, Coastal Orthopedics and Connecticut Pain Care. In addition to Litchfield, the practice has offices in Sharon, New Milford, Southbury, Danbury, Ridgefield and Norwalk.

The Litchfield office will be open daily and will be staffed regularly by three orthopedic physicians, including Dr. John Mullen. Working at the office on Friday, Mullen said the location offers a full range of orthopedic services and access to OrthoConnecticut's roster of 22 physicians.

Steve Saunders of Litchfield, a physician assistant with the practice, will see patients in the new office as well. Erin Lafond of Warren, who grew up in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School, works in the office as the personal secretary of Mullen. The office has four exam rooms and X-ray facilities.

OrthoConnecticut became interested in establishing a Litchfield presence about a year ago, according to Mullen. The practice has many patients from Litchfield and the surrounding area, so opening an office in town would offer them convenience and would help the practice expand its customer base, he said.
