There will be no public hearing in Morris on Wednesday on the proposed town budget of $9,541,454 for 2017-18.
The hearing scheduled by the Board of Finance won’t happen because it was not noticed under state law. Notice of the hearing was not published in the Republican-American, the largest daily newspaper serving Morris, as required.
The finance board meets Thursday at 7 p.m. and is expected to set a new date for a hearing.
The proposed budget is $461,241, or 5.1 percent, higher than the current budget of $9,080,213. It includes $2,905,804 for municipal expenses and $6,635,650 for the approved Region 6 Board of Education budget.
The tax rate under the proposed budget would increase from the current rate of 27.83 mills to 29.62 mills, a jump of 1.79 mills.
