The proposed Litchfield town budget of $31,277,204 for 2018-19 will be considered by voters at a town meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the intermediate school auditorium.
Under the spending plan, the tax rate would increase by just one-tenth of 1 mill, to 27.7 mills. The proposal is $123,754, or 0.4 percent, higher than the current budget of $31,153,450.
The proposed Board of Selectmen budget is $8,152,258 and the proposed Board of Education proposed budget is $18,993,526. Proposed capital spending and debt are $4,131,420 under the proposed budget.
The selectmen’s proposed budget shows no increase in spending and the education proposal is up by just $60,000. The crackdown on spending reflects an effort by town and school officials to ease the burden on taxpayers.
