The Litchfield Garden Club and the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut have joined forces to establish the Litchfield Garden Club Centennial Fund.
Club President Drew Harlow and members of the club presented a check for $8,800 to Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut President Guy Rovezzi in Torrington on Thursday to jump start the fund.
The garden club established the fund as part of its 100th anniversary celebration. Donations from club members and benefactors comprise the initial amount in the fund, which will be managed by the foundation and will be used to support local projects involving gardening, horticulture, civic beautification, environmental awareness and historic preservation.
"The Centennial Fund will enable Litchfield Garden Club members and other donors to accomplish projects of significant benefit to the community," Harlow said.
The club plans to celebrate its anniversary with a event in September and will be conducting several activities throughout the year, including an Arbor Day tree planting in the center of Litchfield on April 26.
