Construction of the new addition at the Litchfield Community Center is underway and on schedule for completion, the Litchfield Area Business Association was told during its monthly luncheon at the Litchfield firehouse on Tuesday.

The community center's executive director, Roberta Andrulis Mette, and Cathy Oneglia, a member of the center's board of directors, were on hand to provide an update on the project.

"We're thrilled by the progress," Oneglia said. "It is a major partnership of generosity."

The addition will provide much-needed space for activities and programs and is being funded in part by grants and donations.

Also addressing LABA were Litchfield Postmaster Vincent Polacco, who spoke about mailing services the post office offers for businesses, and commercial real estate, broker, radio personality and triathlete Tom Hill III of Watertown.

Hill runs his own real estate business, has a talk show on WATR in Waterbury, and is an accomplished runner, swimmer and cyclist. The commercial real estate market, Hill told LABA, is slow and brokers are hampered by sellers seeking asking prices equivalent to those of five years ago, when the market was moving.

"Meanwhile, buyers want today's prices," Hill said. "So the market's partially frozen."
