A new year will bring a new bar and restaurant to the center of Litchfield.

Marketplace Tavern will open in January in the former Litchfield County Correctional Center, which has been transformed into a successful commercial, retail and residential building by the ownership team of Russell Barton, Suzie Stone, Robert Meyers and Harriet Saltzman.

The tavern will feature the building's old three-story cell block. A bar will offer a 12-tap beer system providing product from local breweries. Much of the food will use local ingredients, according to the tavern's owner, Eli Hawli. Hawli also owns Marketplace bars and restaurants in Woodbury, Danbury, Newtown and Avon.

The top of the tavern's bar is made from wood reclaimed from a 102-year-old mansion in Greenwich. There will be seating for 100 in two dining rooms.
