The local component of an advisory committee that will work with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on issues pertaining to Bantam Lake and DEEP's purchase of the Beverly's property on the lake has been selected.
Serving on the committee will be Morris First Selectman Barbara Bongiolatti, Litchfield Selectman Christopher Blake, White Memorial Foundation Superintendent Keith Cudworth, Bantam Lake Authority member Aaron Devaux, Bantam Lake Protective Association President Connie Trolle and Deer Island Association member James Murdica.
Bongiolatti and Blake were appointed by their respective boards of selectmen. The other members were appointed by their organizations.
DEEP will seat two representatives on the committee, which will meet up to four times a year. Forming the committee was a pledge DEEP made in an action plan for the Beverly's property. DEEP paid $1.9 million for the site and will convert it into a public boat launch. The Beverly's building will be renovated for use by DEEP staff and could also end up housing offices of the Bantam Lake Authority and the Bantam Lake Protective Association.
One goal of the locals on the committee will be to ensure that DEEP holds to the pledges it has made in the action plan, which is available at www.ct.gov/deep.
