Litchfield Athletic Club offering two scholarships
The Litchfield Athletic Club is offering two scholarships in the form of one-year student memberships to students from Litchfield High School and Wamogo Regional High School. The scholarships are made possible by the generosity of an anonymous member/donor.
The intention of the scholarship is to give the recipients an opportunity to develop and maintain a healthier lifestyle. The LAC Training Staff will provide guidance and support to the recipients to help them develop and meet their fitness goals.
Qualification for the scholarships is based on financial need, physical need, desire to exercise, and physical goals. Applications are available at LAC. The deadline for application is March 31.
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Joins VHA Inc.
Partnership Initiative aiming to reduce
preventable conditions and improve care
As part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring the very best patient care, the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital has agreed to participate in the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) led by VHA Inc., the national health care network. As part of its Partnership for Patients initiative, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) named 26 Hospital Engagement Networks to comprise a nationwide public-private collaboration focused on reducing preventable harm by 40% and preventable readmissions by 20% in the next three years. CMS/CMMI will fund the Hospital Engagement Networks with $218 million available under the Affordable Care Act.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Invites
Community to "Go Red" For Heart Disease
February is American Heart Health Month and The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) is joining healthcare organizations and companies across the nation to GO RED on Friday, February 3rd to highlight symptoms and prevention methods for women regarding heart disease.
The public is invited to the CHH Cafeteria on Friday, February 4th, for the hospital's annual "Go Red For Women Day," held in conjunction with the American Heart Association's national campaign to raise awareness of heart disease in women and encourage them to take charge of their health. The CHH Cardiology Department is offering free blood pressure screenings, tips and information on heart disease from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. The hospital's food service has planned special heart healthy meal selections for purchase.
CHH staff members and all attending "Go Red For Women Day" are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness that day. Participants will receive a red dress pin or sticker to wear along with information about how they can make healthy choices every day. continued
Center for Cancer Care Fund Receives $4,500 donation
From Local Free Spirit Lady Harley Riders
The Torrington based Free Spirit Lady Harley Riders Motorcycle Club has made a $4,500 donation to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital's Center For Cancer Care Fund, Inc. This year is the seventh consecutive year the group has raised money for the fund, which uses donations to assist and support cancer patients residing or receiving care in northwest Connecticut through care, treatment, education and prevention programs.
Free Spirit held its annual fundraiser on September 24th at Ma'asser Park in Colebrook, CT. The event featured live music by The D. Smith Blues Band, donated raffle items and contributions from many local and non local businesses and several cancer survivors that utilize the Cancer Center for services.This year Free Spirit celebrated its 20th anniversary as a club and 10th annual fundraiser. Each cancer survivor that attended the event whose ages ranged from 13 to 76, was handed a rose in their honor. "It is always humbling to witness the strength and courage of these survivors, this is why we do the fundraiser" stated Connie Pratillo-Perna, original member and President of Free Spirit. continued

CHH Diabetes Center Receives $500 Donation
From Harwinton Lions Club
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Diabetes Center has received a $500 donation from The Harwinton Lions Club to assist in funding for continuous glucose monitors and diabetes related materials for patients.
"We are extremely grateful to the Harwinton Lion's Club for assisting us in making this innovative new program available to Diabetes patients in our community.
