NOTIFICATION OF AQUATIC TREATMENT AT BANTAM LAKE
Selected areas of Bantam Lake will be chemically treated on Wednesday, June 16th with the USEPA/CT DEP registered aquatic herbicide, Reward (active ingredient Diquat). The entire lake will be closed to all water uses (including swimming, boating and fishing) on the day of treatment only. The two public boat launches will also be closed on the day of treatment. The treatment will primarily target areas of invasive and non-native Eurasian watermilfoil weed. In addition, use of the lake water for; irrigation (watering lawns, gardens, or plants of any kind); livestock watering (i.e. cattle, horses, etc.) and; drinking/cooking purposes, are all prohibited for 5 days post-treatment. The lake shoreline will be posted with printed signs (prior to treatment) warning of the temporary water use restrictions. This chemical treatment at Bantam Lake is being performed, pursuant to a permit from CT DEP. The chemical treatment is but one step of a comprehensive watershed assessment and in-lake management program that is well underway. The projects organizers and proponents include the Bantam Lake Protective Association, the Bantam Lake Authority, the Towns of Morris and Litchfield, and the Hart Memorial Foundation. Aquatic Control Technology, Inc., of Sutton, MA, is the CT licensed company performing the chemical treatment and consultant to the Bantam Lake Protective Association.
