Town of Litchfield reinstates expanded van service
for seniors and disabled

Litlchfield has received more grant assistance from the State that will enable the hours for the Litchfield senior bus service to be expanded. Funds from the State Matching Grant Program for the Elderly and Disabled Demand Responsive Transportation will provide expanded curb-to-curb van service starting Oct. 5 with a new schedule: Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., including special group trips.

The service is open to all senior citizens and disabled residents of Litchfield and is accessed by calling the Northwestern CT Transit District office 24 hours in advance at (860) 489-2535 to schedule. It provides transportation to medical and hair appointments, banks, restaurants, shops, grocery shopping and the Litchfield Nutrition site for lunch, etc. Dial-A-Ride vehicles do not follow a fixed route, but travel where necessary to accommodate passengers' specific requests.

The Town of Litchfield continues to welcome its partnership with Northwestern CT Transit District and its help in managing the matching funds to increase this service through June 30, 2010. The town also acknowledges the Benas Memorial Fund, Bank of America Trustee, which has continued to donate generously to help underwrite this program for another year.
