Big races await Litchfield High's cross-country teams on Thursday.
That's when Coach Brent Hawkins sends his boys and girls against Nonnewaug in key Berkshire League meets. The action takes place at Nonnewaug.
The boys race will feature a pair of 7-0 teams battling for first place. Both girls teams are 6-1 and jockeying for second place behind Thomaston.
Litchfield's boys blasted Housatonic and Terryville on Tuesday, while the girls did the same.
For the boys, Joe Wihbey was second in 17:56 on the 3.1-mile course at Housatonic. The Cowboys dominated with their depth, as Matt Markelon was third in 18:07, Jack Collins fourth in 18:20, Cal Swomley fifth in 18:22, and Ryan Gannon sixth in 18:39. Connor Dieck was eighth in 19:10 and Luke Lapenta 10th in 19:30.
Litchfield's Julia Tompkins won the girls race in 21:47 for 3.1 miles. The girls, too, showed their depth in the victory, with Sarah Peterson running second in 21:58, Olivia Nordland third in 22:20, Natalie Wihbey fourth in 22:59, Marissa Concilio fifth in 23:18, Veronica Birdsall sixth in 23:44, Chelsea Hayward seventh in 23:48, Sarah Simaitis eighth in 23:56, and Olivia Hayward 10th in 24:58.
