One team came ready to play Wednesday at Plumb Hill Playing Fields and the other didn't.
A fired-up Litchfield jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and rolled to a 4-1 victory over Wamogo in boys soccer.
"The first 30 minutes was the best I've seen in my 10 years here," said Litchfield coach Rob Andrulis, whose club improved to 2-1-1.
Ryan Pickett scored the first goal and not long after Quinlan McCarthy followed with the second. Nick Hula added the third goal, putting Wamogo on the ropes before the large crowd watching had a chance to settle in.
"We were extremely flat the first 20 minutes and we weren't communicating very well," Wamogo coach Mike Wilson said. "It was a crucial 20 minutes because we found ourselves down 2-0."
The Warriors, however, began to show life in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Several runs on goal were turned back by the Cowboys' defense until Billy Grambo headed a pass to a Kevin Leite racing toward the goal. Leite gathered the pass and booted a shot past goalie Mark Luzzi.
"Once we went up 3-0, we got lethargic," Andrulis said. "Had (Wamogo) gotten a second goal before the half ended, it would've been a different game."
In the second half, both teams had numerous chances to score as the intensity of the game picked up. Wilson, in an attempt to generate offense, moved sweeper Mike Odenwaelder to forward. Odenwaelder and his booming foot rushed the goal on several occasions but could never get a clear shot.
Litchfield's final goal came when Kyle Murphy outran Wamogo's defense and snuck a tough-angle shot past Warriors goalie Brendan Roden.
Roden and Luzzi both had busy afternoons, with each turning away seven shots. Wamogo fell to 3-2.
