Brittany Shakley, top, and Isabelle Binstadt are shown in action during Saturday's scrimmage against Brookfield at Plumb Hill Playing Fields.
Litchfield High's girls soccer team has all but two players back and should be able to improve on last year's 5-8-3 record.
The Cowgirls, who lost six games by one goal, are hoping the experience of 2009 pays off this fall, according to fourth-year coach Brian Mongeau, who is 26-24-4.
"If one of two girls step up and have great seasons, we could do very well," Mongeau said. "We have the most talented group of players in my four years. Our younger players have come in and done a great job, so the future looks bright."
Returning players are seniors Michelle MacLeod (midfield), Kaitlin Hill (defense), Sandy Quinion (defense) and Brittany Quinion (midfield); juniors Brittany Shakley (midfield), Staci Shuhi (defense), Marissa Quesnel (midfield), Gina Mastrianna (forward, midfield), Andrea Kleid (midfield), Domenique Dimaria (defense, midfield), Kirby Bunnell (defense) and Casey Simoncelli (defense); and sophomores Kelly Lewis (goalie), Emily Andrulis (forward), Isabelle Binstadt (forward, midfield), and Mary Claire (midfield).
