After a rainout on Sunday, the Tri-State League championship series between the Tri-Town Trojans and the Bethlehem Plowboys resumes Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fuessenich Park in Torrington.
The third game, if necessary, will be played Thursday at 7.
Bethlehem captured the opener, 5-3, on Saturday at Fuessenich Park. The Litchfield-based Trojans fell behind early but hung in thanks to some excellent relief pitching by Andy Dooley and John Conley.
After starter Jason Patrick was knocked out in the third inning after giving up three runs, Dooley and Conley combined to hold the Plowboys to two runs the rest of the way.
Had the Trojans been able to come through with some clutch hitting, the game might have turned in their favor. They left the bases loaded twice, in the third and fifth innings.
Bethlehem scored once in the bottom of the first, but the Trojans evened the score with a run in the third on an RBI single by John Smart. The Plowboys went up 3-1 in the bottom of the third only to see the Trojans fight back with one run in the fourth and fifth innings to forge a tie.
In the third, Kyle Osolin singled and scored on a double by Landon Gardella and in the fifth, Casey McDonald was hit by a pitch, went to third on a single by Steve Price, and scored on a single by Osolin.
But that was all the offense the Trojans would muster against Plowboys pitcher Tyler Erickson, who struck out 15.
On Wednesday, the Trojans will send ace Miles Scribner to the mound to face Jason Krajeski of the Plowboys.
