One more win and the Tri-Town Trojans are headed to the Tri-State League's best of three championship series.
The Trojans will play Watertown on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fuessenich Park in Torrington, with the winner advancing to play Bethlehem in the championship series. The series opens Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fuessenich.
Tri-Town (17-10, 4-1 in the tournament) routed Brass City 10-0 on Sunday to earn the date against Watertown. Myles Scribner tossed seven innings to pick up the win, giving up just two hits, striking out six and walking two. John Conley pitched two hitless innings in relief.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead when Connor Murray singled and Nick Lahoud slugged a home run. Murray finished with two hits and Lahoud had two hits and four RBI.
In the fifth, the Trojans went up 6-0 when Joe Bunnell reached on an error and Murray, Lahoud, Casey McDonald, Dan McCarty and Steve Price all stroked singles.
McDonald had three hits and two RBI. Price belted a two-run homer in the seventh to put the Trojans up 8-0. Hits by Landon Gardella, Jon Smart, Bunnell and McDonald and a sacrifice fly by Lahoud made it 10-0 in the eighth.
On Saturday it was Murray tossing a gem on the mound in a 7-1 victory over Winsted at Community Field. Murray went nine innings, gave up six hits, struck out six and walked one.
Murray was able to escape a few jams and then received a cushion from his teammates, beginning in the fourth inning when McCarty and Price singled, were moved up by Kyle Osolin's but, and McCarty scored on a sacrifice fly by Gardella.
In the sixth, the Trojans scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Price, Troy Kobylarz and Bunnell each drove in a run in the inning.
