A record field of 117 runners turned out for the second week of the White Memorial Cross-Country Series on Thursday. It was the largest field in the seven years of the series and came at the end of another blistering hot day. The temperature had cooled to 80 by race time and a slight breeze kept White Memorial's voracious deer flies at bay. Dan Lane of Goshen won the 5-K race in 16:41 and Annmarie Tuxbury of New Hartford paced the ladies in 18:59. The top runners in the 4-K were Claudia Ghisa of Watertown and Peter Wihbey of Litchfield. Sara Iannone of Northfield, who will represent the Litchfield Track Club in the USATF Junior Olympics in Sacramento, Calif., at the end of the month, won the 3-K, ahead of John Adomelis of Bethlehem. In the 2-K, Robby Breakell was first in 6:51 and Megan Bobinski of Torrington second in a female record of 8:31. The series begins each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the parks and recreation department and the Litchfield Track Club. Entry fee is $2.
