JUNIOR OLYMPICS TRACK & FIELD
GOLD RUSH FOR THE LITCHFIELD TRACK CLUB

Youth Runners for the Litchfield Track Club garnered 27 medals at the Connecticut Association Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University. The top six in each age group event qualified for the Region 1 Championships next weekend at Bowden College in Brunswick, Maine. Usually known for their long distance talents, a balanced sprinting group added to the medal count.

LTC runners copped 8 gold medals in the meet. Nick Hula of Litchfield successfully defended his 2009 state title in the 15-16 400 meter hurdles in 60.72. Rachael Rosow of Avon was a double winner in the 13-14 800 meters and 1500 meters.

Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston) won the 13-14 400 meters and placed second in the 100 meter hurdles. Dan Dolecki (Winsted) ran first in the 15-16 200 meters and placed second in the 100m . James Heath-Ringrose in the 13-14 did the same with a first in the 200m and second in the 100m.

Jackson Morrow (Harwinton) won a state title in the 13-14 3000m in 10:53, and placed third in the 1500m. Shadow Pereira (Torrington) qualified for the regionals with a fourth place in the 11-12 3000m.

Triple medal winners were Calvin Palmer (Watertown), who showed his versatility by winning the 11-12 high jump in 4’2”, placing second in the long jump, and running fifth in the 1500m. Peter Mennin (Woodbury) in the 15-16 high jump was a silver medalist in 5’6” and took a pair of thirds in the 100m and 400m. The third triple medal winner was Devin Voight (Thomaston) who had a pair of second places in the 15-16 200m and long jump. He also medaled fifth in the 100m.

The LTC’s youngest member, Savanna Voight (Thomaston) at age 8, placed fourth in the 10& Under long jump and 6th in the 100m. In the female 13-14, Samantha Glass (Goshen) was second in the 3000m and third in the 1500. Teammate Sara Iannone (Northfield) ran second in the 15-16 3000m and third in the 1500m.

At the Region 1 meet, the top three finishers in each age-group event qualify for the national Championships which will be held in Sacramento, California the end of July.
