Wamogo, LHS ousted from postseason
Litchfield.bz (6-7-10)

Wamogo shortstop Kerri Stolle fires to first base during a 3-0 win over Oxford in the first round of the Class S tournament last week.

A 2-0 loss to Terryville in the second round of the Class S softball tournament on Friday ended Wamogo's breakthrough season.

Litchfield High's baseball season ended as well Friday with a 9-0 loss to Northwest Catholic in the second round of the Class S tournament.

Wamogo, making just its second tournament appearance in 24 years, finished 13-9 under third-year coach Scott Marcucio. The Warriors were unable to solve Terryville pitcher Beth Grimes, who tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14.

Brooke Bittel was almost as good for the Warriors, tossing a five-hitter and striking out three. Both Terryville runs came in the third inning, but only one was earned.

Wamogo had a chance to tighten the game in the sixth inning after Rachel Kohout singled and stole second base with one out. Kohout would eventually try to score on an overthrow at first base but was tagged out at the plate for the second out. Kerri Stolle made it to third on the play but was stranded when Grimes struck out Suzie Theriault to end the inning.

Looking ahead to next year, Wamogo could be one of the better teams in the Berkshire League as it will lose just two starters in Kohout and center fielder Meg Murray.
