Wamogo pitcher Brooke Bittel throws to first base for an out after fielding a ground ball in last week's game against Terryville. Bittel, a sophomore, has been one of the
best pitchers in the Berkshire League this season.
It was a tough week for Wamogo's softball team, but one that should help the Warriors when they make just their second appearance in the Class S tournament in 26 years next week.
Wamogo faced the top teams in the Berkshire League - Terryville, Lewis Mills and Thomaston - and lost to all three. After a 4-1 loss to Terryville on Monday, the Warriors lost an epic 3-2 decision in 12 innings against Lewis Mills. They didn't have much left for Thomaston on Wednesday in a 12-2 loss.
Wamogo takes a 12-8 record into the tournament.
In the loss to Mills, Wamogo's Brooke Bittel and Mills' Emily Bohmer engaged in one of the best pitching duels in league history. It was 1-1 after 11 innings, but Mills reached Bittel for two runs in the top of the 12th. Wamogo rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning but Bohmer was able to escape.
Bohmer finished with 19 strikeouts and Bittel had eight.
In the loss to Thomaston, Bittel slugged a triple and Megan Murray and Suzie Theriault each had two hits.
Wamogo's baseball team ended the season on a high note with a 3-2 victory over Terryville on Wednesday. Mike Odenwaelder pitched and batted the Warriors to the win. He had a triple, single and two RBI and pitched a two-hitter. Brendan Roden drove in the go-ahead run for Wamogo with a single in the fifth inning and Ted Gravel added two hits.
