Cowboy roll to easy win in Class S opener
Litchfield.bz (6-3-10)

Litchfield shortstop Quinlan McCarthy, top, throws to first base to complete a game-ending double play in Wednesday's victory over Old Saybrook, while third baseman Will Austin makes an unsuccessful bid to catch a pop-up in the infield. Next to Austin is pitcher Dave Matson.

Litchfield jumped all over Old Saybrook early in posting an 11-4 victory in a Class S tournament game that began Tuesday and ended Wednesday.
The Cowboys (12-9) were scheduled to play at Northwest Catholic in a second-round game on Thursday.
The contest against Old Saybrook started on Tuesday but was suspended in the fourth inning when a downpour left the field unplayable. Litchfield was ahead 9-1 at the time.
The Cowboys scored twice in the bottom of the first and increased the lead to 5-0 in the second on Caleb Buck's bases-loaded triple. Buck finished with three hits, as did Will Austin. Austin pitched on Tuesday and Dave Matson wrapped things up on Wednesday. Matson ended the game by inducing a 4-6-3 double play.
