Litchfield.bz (4-25-10)

Drizzle and dampness couldn't stop the Junior Women's Club of the Litchfield Hills from putting on a successful road race on Sunday. The inaugural Girls Just Wanna Run 5-K drew 276 women and girls for a jaunt along North Shore Road. About $6,000 was raised and will benefit the club's scholarship fund and local charities. Club member Jill Vermilyea was the director of the race. First place went to Cassie Maximenko of Naugatuck, whose time was 20:42. The first Litchfield finisher was Anna Stokes, who was fourth in 22:22. Susan Leigh of Litchfield was fifth in 22:29. Go to www.greystoneracing.net to see the results.
