Steve Celadon, in action during the regular season, scored 14 points in his final game, Monday's Class S overtime loss to Morgan.

A season of ups and downs came to a close Monday for Wamogo's boys basketball team, but the final game will be remembered as one in which the Warriors played some of their best ball of the winter and in the end left everything on the court.

Playing on the road in the first round of the Class S tournament, Wamogo lost to Morgan of Clinton 68-65 in overtime. A three-quarter court shot by Mike Odenwaelder rimmed out at the final horn.

Wamogo, plagued by inconsistency all season, finished 11-10. The inconsistency was there in the first half for the Warriors, who trailed by scores of 8-0, 25-10 and 31-14 before ending the half with a 10-2 run to cut Morgan's lead to 33-24.

In the third quarter, the Warriors heated up from three-point range and outscored Morgan 23-19 to trail by five, 52-47, entering the fourth quarter. Wamogo forged five ties in the fourth quarter but never took the lead, although it had the last shot in regulation.

Morgan was up by 10 with 1:46 left in overtime before Wamogo again fought back and got within one at 66-65 with 3.4 seconds left. Morgan went back up by three but missed a chance to seal the game from the free-throw line with 1.9 seconds left. Odenwaelder rebounded the missed free throw and his desperation heave was on the mark and rimmed the basket twice before falling out.

Odenwaelder, one of the state's leading scorers, rebounders and assist men, finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Steve Celadon, a senior, and Nick Nemergut, a freshman, each had 14 points. Celadon and Nemergut both sank four three-point field goals and Odenwaelder had three to give the Warriors 11 for the game.

Odenwaelder, Nemergut and regulars Spencer Albano and Lucas Fraher will form the nucleus of coach Gregg Hunt's team next year.
