




The Litchfield Track Club's boys and girls teams for 13 and 14-year-olds, top photos, both won their respective races in the state Junior Olympics Championships. Thirty-five Litchfield Track Club runners qualified to compete in this weekend's Region I Junior Olympics Cross-Country Championships with their performances in the Connecticut Junior Olympics Championships at the White Memorial Conservation Center.
A total of 266 boys and girls ages 7-18 compete in the state meet, which was hosted by the Litchfield Track Club for the ninth straight year.
Litchfield Track Club runners performed well in all age groups, winning three of them and sending 35 members on to the Region I meet Sunday in Augusta, Maine. The top 25 runners and top three teams in each age group move on. The national championships will be held in Reno, Nev., in December.
The winning teams for the LTC were the boys and girls 13-and14 year-old teams. Running for the girls were Samantha Glass of Goshen, Colleen and Sara Iannone of Northfield, Megan Bobinski of Torrington, and Mckenzie Blair, Sabrina Olsen, Becky Perugini and Cameron Chaplen, all of Thomaston.
For the boys were Quinton Hoey of Watertown, Luke McMahon and Seth Abbott, both of Thomaston, Stephano Guerrero of Watertown, Tanner Greenlaw of Plymouth, and Ryan Gannon and Jeffrey Wright, both of Litchfield.
The top race of the day was the boys 11-12 age group, where the top four runners shattered the 3-K (1.9 miles) course record of 10:57. Races were also 4-K (2.4 miles) and 5-K (3.1 miles).
Warm weather and surprisingly dry trails greeted the runners. Dave Driscoll of the Litchfield Track Club served as the director of the championships, while several members of the Litchfield Hills Road Race committee and others volunteered their services to make the meet run a success.
