Litchfield GOP Pasta Supper – October 7th

The Litchfield Republican Party will host a Pasta Supper on Thursday, October 7th from 5-7 pm at the Litchfield Firehouse, Rt. 202 in Litchfield. Many of the candidates will be present including Martha Dean.

Mark Greenberg supports Martha Dean

As many of you know, even though we were not successful in the August 10th primary we have been working day and night garnering support for candidates in the state who embrace our beliefs of limited government, self-reliance and common-sense solutions to problems that have encompassed our great state and nation.

Over the last year I have had the pleasure of meeting and discussing these issues with Martha Dean, our candidate for Attorney General. We have discussed in detail her outlook of the responsibilities that would be placed upon her as Attorney General. We have agreed upon the importance of holding true to the Constitution of this great nation which should still be the roadmap to the future and as relevant now as it was over 200 years ago.

Martha is a person of dedication and courage. She has turned down public financing for candidates because she does not believe that the State and its taxpayers should finance political careers. This was a principled decision in that she has an opponent who has taken public financing for the race, and because of that she is underfunded compared to him. Although she is at a disadvantage with regard to money she is at an advantage with regard to her ethical and honest character!

We have an opportunity in this election year to make history! We can elect a Republican Attorney General which has the character and knowledge in her field to carry on her duties as Attorney General without regard to her own political career and prospects for the next election cycle. She will be an important backstop to a Connecticut legislature that will once again likely be strongly Democratic which has driven us to the brink of economic catastrophe.

Please join me in supporting Martha Dean by going to her website at www.deanag2010.com and giving generously to her campaign to enable her to get out her message of limited government which will allow Connecticut to become great once again. There is no better investment for this state and for your family than investing in Martha Dean for Attorney General.

Thank you!
Mark Greenberg

Bill Zappone excited to learn Craig Miner
has finally agreed to participate in debate.

Political new comer Bill Zappone, who is challenging five term incumbent Republican Craig Miner for the 66th district State House of Representatives seat, was excited to learn today that his opponent has finally responded to debate requests by the League of Women Voters.

On September 18th both the Zappone and Miner campaigns were invited by Pat Donovan, President LWV of Litchfield to participate in a debate on October 14th. The proposed debate would be held at WAMOGO High School using a cumulative time format and would follow the 5th Congressional debate.

Mr. Zappone agreed to participate on September 18th only hours after the invitations were sent out. Craig Miner’s campaign has agreed after 6 days and numerous phones calls.

Bill Zappone’s initial response to learning of the Miner Campaign’s silence was surprise,
“I am shocked Craig is not eager to debate. He is a career politician with lots of experience debating; I figured he would jump at the chance to take on someone from outside the political arena like myself.”

Democratic challenger Bill Zappone learned of incumbent Craig Miner’s prolonged silence from Pat Donovan, while he was attending a forum on Affordable Housing at Oliver Wolcott Library sponsored by the Litchfield Chapter of the League of Women Voters.

Mr. Zappone can only surmise that Craig Miner is not eager to defend his record. “Mr. Miner has made a lot of votes that are out of the mainstream. He voted against funding worker retraining when we have over 9% unemployment and he is one of the least active legislators in Hartford. Craig only sponsored four bills last session; the Republican average is eighteen. He has voted against families and his work ethic is questionable.”

Bill Zappone is glad to debate Craig Miner and would be willing to hold events in each of the five towns that make up the 66th district.

Craig Miner running for re-election in 66th
Craig Miner, unanimously endorsed at his district caucus, is once again running to serve the citizens of the 66th district. The 66th district is comprised of the towns of Bethlehem, Litchfield, Morris, Warren and Woodbury. This is a complex and varied district, being composed of so many individual towns. But Craig knows these towns well and has their best interests as well as the best interests of the state in mind. His committee is eager and ready to work for Craig's re-election.

Once again this year David T. Wilson will be serving as Craig's campaign Treasurer. "I am happy to serve again as Craig's Treasurer. Whether we are discussing complex budget issues, or working with my 90 year old dad on a stained glass project, Craig is at ease and informed. He has a sense of humor that's hard to beat."

The committee is proud to announce that Craig's Campaign Chairman is J. Roderick McAlpin, a long time friend and supporter from Litchfield.

"We were delighted to have Rod agree to the chairmanship," said Craig. "I know he will bring a renewed vitality to the process." In his first public statement at a recent meeting, Chairman McAlpin announced that, "I agree wholeheartedly with a recent statement by the Chairman of the Litchfield Democratic Town Committee (no matter how his interests may differ from mine -and believe me they do), that Craig Miner is a genuinely nice guy." Chairman McAlpin went on to say that, "Of course that is hardly a revelation to those of us who have known Craig over many years in the Litchfield area. Craig is a father, grandfather, Boy Scout troop leader and former small business owner. He serves his constituents well and is proud of his work in the legislature as he constantly provides a buffer against the tax and spend philosophy of the majority party in our state capitol. I am looking forward to campaigning for Craig".

"The more you work for Craig and know him, the more you want to work for him," says committee member Victoria Sansing.
