Dems to nominate candidate for CT 66th
Local Democrats will reconvene on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at La Cupola's Restaurant, 637 Bantam Road, Litchfield, to nominate a candidate to run in the 66th District against current State Representative Craig Miner. Nathaniel Peters-Kroll from Woodbury was previously nominated in May, but withdrew his candidacy, creating the vacancy.
Bill Zappone, a five year resident of Litchfield and sales representative for Xerox, is expected to become the new nominee.
The 66th District is made up of Litchfield, Woodbury, Morris, Warren and Bethlehem.

Litchfield Dems to host picnic
The Democratic Picnic is on September 11th from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Field. Tickets are available from DTC members. Usual picnic fare will be served. The price is $15 for adults, $10 for children, and a maximum of $40 per family. We expect numerous statewide and local candidates.
For those of you who would like to pitch in, we need people to help set up at around 11:00 a.m. and people to clean up at approximately 4:30 p.m. We are always in need of desserts, baked goods, appetizers, salads and the like. A few big coolers and ice would be appreciated as well as grills. Jeff Zullo, Gary Waugh and Bob Berson could always use some help on the grills.

BLICK SELECTED BY DEMS IN PROBATE COURT RACE

Convention Delegates Lauren Bove and Steve Paletsky of Morris chat with Diane Blick, the Democratic Candidate for Judge of Probate at the Convention held at The Cornwall Inn.
On Tuesday, May 11th at The Cornwall Inn in Cornwall Bridge, the Democratic convention delegates for the newly formed 12-town Litchfield Hills Probate District unanimously nominated Diane Blick to be their candidate for Judge of Probate.
Judge Blick is currently the sitting Judge of the Litchfield Probate Court which services the towns of Kent, Litchfield, Morris and Warren. Effective January 5th, 2011, the new District will also include Canaan, Cornwall, Harwinton, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon and Thomaston.
In her acceptance speech, Judge Blick thanked the delegates for their enthusiastic support and explained the types of matters which come before the probate court such as conservatorships, estates and removal of parents as guardians of their children. She also addressed the importance of a probate district made up of small towns and why she fought to protect the identity of the small town probate court.

Republican Town Committee delegates from the Towns of Canaan (Falls Village), Cornwall, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Thomaston, and Warren unanimously elected Attorney Patrick J. Wall as the party-endorsed nominee for Judge of Probate for the newly-created Litchfield Hills Probate District at a convention held at the Cornwall Town Hall on Thursday night.

NORTHWEST CORNER DEMS TURN OUT IN SUPPORT OF MALLOY

LITCHFIELD – Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy was joined today by a number of political leaders from Connecticut’s Northwest Corner as they publically announced their support of his potential candidacy for Governor. Supporters from Litchfield, Torrington and many other area towns gathered in their effort to “help elect Dan Malloy as Connecticut’s next Governor.”
Malloy, who has been meeting with local political and community leaders in the region in recent months, gathered with the large group on Wednesday at the offices of Democratic State Central Committeewoman Audrey Blondin. Malloy said he was “gratified by the outpouring of support.”
