Litchfield Community Greenway commences with National Park Service technical assistance
The Litchfield Community Greenway began its work with the National Park Service Technical Assistant, John Monroe with a walk to review the conditions on the proposed route of the trail between the intersection of South Lake Street and Alain White Road, and the entrance to White Memorial. After consultation with Keith Cudworth, executive director of White Memorial, the group, consisting of Clifford Cooper, John Clock, Dave Weik and Barbara Putnam walked, took notes of existing conditions, and measured the distances between landmarks on the nearly two mile route. The full committee met to discuss its plans in the evening. continued
The Litchfield Community Greenway group will be detailing an improvement and maintenance plan over the winter, and looks forward to opening a segment of the trail in the spring. Work groups addressing trail maintenance, construction planning, fundraising, publicity, and community liaison have been formed, and new members interested in supporting the work of the Greenway are welcome. The Greenway group meets every third Wednesday of the month. For more information contact Clifford Cooper, 860-567-9876 or cliffordacooper@optonline.net
Technical assistance from the US Department of the Interior’s National Park Service was won through a competitive grant that was awarded in mid-November. It will be available for a year, with a possible renewal for a second year.
The Litchfield Community Greenway group works with the Litchfield Community Center as its fiduciary agent, and donations to the Greenway are tax deductible.
