Feds dismiss parent's school complaint
Litchfield.bz (9-17-10)

A complaint by a parent alleging that Litchfield school officials violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act by failing to provide her with information on an incident involving her son has been dismissed by the U.S. Department of Education.
Word of the dismissal came in a Sept. 10 letter to Superintendent of Schools Deborah S. Wheeler. The letter, written by Ellen Campbell of the Department of Education, said the complaint was dismissed because Wheeler took the necessary steps to address its concerns.
Wheeler, Campbell wrote, followed her directive to inform school officials and staff of the requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
The parent, Ann Egan, issued her complaint in 2009 after she was unable to get a copy of a report on her son allegedly being struck by another student on a school district van transporting them home from Center School on Sept. 3, 2008.
Campbell said Egan should have received a copy of the report upon request. Egan wasn't given a copy until Aug. 28, Campbell wrote in last week's letter.
