Center School's new $78,000 all-weather playground is ready for the school's first recess, which takes place today with the opening of school. Trying the equipment out on Tuesday was Kendra Hurder-Facher, who is entering third grade at the school. Two grants, the largest coming from the Seherr-Thoss Foundation of Litchfield, covered the cost of the equipment and the rubber surface it sits on. The new equipment replaces a wooden playground that had deteriorated to the point where it was no longer safe.
